“We have already won.” Those were the words that Head Coach Onesta Francis said to the Reedley College inaugural women’s soccer team right before kickoff of their first game Friday, Sept. 1. The team made school history at the Immanuel Sports Complex in Reedley, where they will be playing all home games.
The Lady Tigers lost to Victor Valley 8-0, but as Francis told his team, “We will be setting new records every time we step out on the field.” 1st half -- Kari Maza (Crystal Perez) 13th minute; Crystal Perez (unassisted) 14th minute; Maza (unassisted) 28th minute; Chloe Anderson (unassisted) 30th minute; Aliyah Palacios (Maza) 35th minute; Palacios (unassisted) 44th minute. 2nd half -- Reyna Contreras (unassisted) 55th minute; Allison Temme (Melody Rodriguez) 81st minute.
The team had their second match on Monday, Sept. 4 and lost to Mendocino 3-0. 1st half -- Emmylee Holt (Madalyn Rodriguez) 20th minute; Holt (unassisted) 38th minute. 2nd half -- Katalina Magdaleno (unassisted) 59th minute.
The Lady Tigers’ next home game is Saturday, Sept. 30 at 1 p.m. against Fresno City. The team is comprised of mostly local players, including graduates of Orange Cove High School, Dinuba High School, Reedley High School, Orosi High School, and Selma High School.
